COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will provide the general practitioner with a comprehensive overview of the developmental and acquired joint diseases such as hip dysplasia, Legg-Perthes disease, un-united coronoid process, fragmented coronoid process and congenital luxations including patellar luxations. Injuries affecting joints of dogs and cats will be studied, particularly luxations and cranial cruciate ligament insufficiency. Etiology, diagnosis and treatment options will be discussed, with emphasis on practical surgical treatment options for the general small animal practice. Laboratories will stress perfecting surgical approaches and performing procedures in a proficient fashion.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As a result of attending this course, practitioners will be able to:

  • increase clinical diagnostic proficiency in order to accurately diagnose causes of
    lameness in their patients.
  • advance their knowledge of treatment options for various joint diseases and
    traumatic joint injuries.
  • improve their proficiency in surgical approaches to the joints.
  • perform appropriate surgical procedures to treat joint diseases and joint injuries seen in general small animal practice.
