COURSE DESCRIPTION
This year’s Feline Medicine course will be truly unique: two days of ultrasound with hands-on laboratories are planned. One day of feline cardiac disease includes an echocardiography lab, while a second day on feline abdominal ultrasound (including a laboratory), will serve to elevate the diagnostic skills of practitioners. Comprehensive discussions in clinical pathology and dermatology will be both case-based and topical. Therapeutics relevant to the feline patient and the uncommonly discussed topic of feline orthopedics will be included.Stress factors that affect handling cats in the clinic will be discussed as well as ideas on how to create a feline-friendly clinic environment for the indoor-confined cat. These discussions will provide practical and hands-on advice for daily use in the clinic and tips to help clients at home. The week will wind up with a discussion of chronic diarrhea and an investigation into the current beliefs on the use of blood pressure assessment.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
As a result of attending this course, the practitioner will:
- gain a basic understanding of ultrasound and applied anatomy as it pertains to ultrasound of the feline abdomen and heart and be able to perform or interpret ultrasound images as a novice.
- have an appreciation of feline orthopedic conditions in order to look for them and treat them.
- be updated on current therapeutics as well as complications and implications of compounding.
- have a better understanding of clinical pathology in feline medicine and the desirable aspects of a commercial lab as well as an in-house lab.
