Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide a combination of a didactic and interactive environment for the review of thoracic and abdominal radiology.  This will include an interpretation paradigm for each of the body cavities, a review of normal anatomy for the dog and cat thorax and abdomen; pertinent topics related to review of thoracic radiology such as the coughing dog and cat along with interpretation paradigm for cardiac disease; the vomiting dog and cat and a review of cases to re-iterate and stress specific points at the end of each day.  The participants are expected to participate in this informal setting such that there is a maximal experience for a short, intense weekend course in radiology.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the importance and practical applications of thoracic radiology.
  2. Understand the necessity of evaluating abdominal radiographs along with abdominal ultrasound and the practical applications of abdominal radiography.
  3. The veterinary practitioner should feel comfortable upon returning to their practice to appropriately train their technicians as to the application of taking diagnostic thoracic and abdominal radiographs.  This will in turn increase the veterinary practitioner’s confidence for suggesting more thoracic and abdominal radiographs in a variety of appropriate clinical settings and feel comfortable about an initial radiographic evaluation and interpretation.
