The Latin American veterinary community has made Lima in October the place to receive continuing education.

Held at the Sheraton Lima Hotel and Convention Center and the College of Veterinary Medicine of San Marcos University in Lima, the third annual Latin American Veterinary Conference (LAVC del NAVC) presented by the North American Veterinary Conference, October 5 to 8, featured two scientific tracks and a one-day Electrocardiography workshop.   read more...

The North American Veterinary Conference is pleased to announce Aine McCarthy, MS, DVM, as their new Director of Education. No stranger to the NAVC, Dr. McCarthy has been attending the annual NAVC Conference since 1989 in various capacities and was elected to the NAVC Board of Directors in 2005.

The NAVC Conference 2008 January 19-23 in Orlando, FL promises to provide a variety of learning formats and daily activities to keep attendees busy. The 2008 program features more than 1,400 hours of continuing education, presented by over 375 speakers and instructors.  The NAVC Conference’s traditional wide spectrum of small animal programming continues with a variety of seminars of interest to all practitioners at both co-headquarters hotels; the Gaylord Palms and the Marriott World Center.   read more...

EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT ABOUND AT 2007 NAVC CONFERENCE - Monday, December 04, 2006
The 24th annual NAVC Conference January 13-17, 2007 in Orlando, Florida promises to provide a variety of learning formats and daily activities to keep attendees busy.

With the introduction of a meeting-within-a-meeting, exotic animal enthusiasts can attend all their lectures at the Marriott World Center. This year’s program features wildlife medicine and conservation, avian problem-oriented issues and answers, aquatic medicine, rabbits, small mammal “How I Manage…,” reptiles – snakes and chelonians and small mammal surgery and diagnostics.

A new program highlight is the interactive Dairy Reproductive Programs Master class that takes a new approach to the most current concepts in dairy reproduction by combining a four-week online course with a 1.5 hour discussion workshop at the NAVC Conference.   read more...

NAVC MOURNS THE LOSS OF PAST PRESIDENT DR. OLIVE KENDRICK BRITT - Wednesday, April 05, 2006
Olive Kendrick Britt, 88, of Goochland, Va., died Monday, March 13, 2006 of natural causes.  She was a pioneer for women in the field of equine veterinary medicine graduating from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1959.  Serving as the North American Veterinary Conference President from 1989-1990, Britt was a caring and compassionate leader...   read more...

2006 NAVC Offers More Bang For The Buck - Tuesday, February 07, 2006

     Record crowds, innovative programming and a growing international contingent coupled with warm weather, great entertainment and a bustling exhibit hall made the 2006 North American Veterinary Conference once more worthy of the buzz it generates.
      More than 14,500 people attended the NAVC this year, including 5665 veterinarians, 1,658 technicians, 669 practice managers, 740 students, 2,466 family members and guests, 3,099 exhibitors, 126 non-D.V.M. registrants and 130 members of the press.
    “We were very pleased with this year’s attendance, which fitted well into our conference hotels” said Colin Burrows, B.Vet.Med., Ph.D., NAVC’s executive director.  “We have never wanted to be the biggest conference, merely the best, and feedback from registrants and our exhibitors were full of superlatives, indicating we again achieved that goal.”   read more...

Got Vet? NAVC Staffer assists in assessing dog after accident - Tuesday, February 07, 2006

   A woman, a registrant for an ING Financial Group conference being held at the same hotel, reportedly heard from a colleague about the simultaneously scheduled veterinary meeting. Worried about her small dog, which had been a recent car accident and seemed to have an eye problem, the woman was directed – with her dog in a crate -- to the Naples Room, where NAVC staffers were busy setting up for the meeting that began the following day.   read more...

Groundbreaking Advocates for Disabled are Among Speakers At 2006 NAVC - Tuesday, February 07, 2006

     The two move comfortably in many circles, albeit with the assistance of their guide dogs, golden retrievers Keebler and Latrell. The Eameses are well known at veterinary colleges nationwide and within the organized community of persons with disabilities as tireless advocates for assistance dogs and their partners. The couple were cofounders of the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners, a 12-year-old group now 2,000 members strong.
     World travelers and also writers, the Eameses are the authors of Partners in Independence, a Success Story of Dogs and the Disabled, now in its second edition.

Influenza Talks Draw Crowd, Reflection at NAVC - Tuesday, February 07, 2006

 Among the speakers drawing packed crowds during the 2006 North American Veterinary Conference, held Jan. 7-11 in Orlando, was Cynda Crawford, D.V.M., Ph.D., who spoke as part of a panel addressing the canine and avian influenza viruses.
     Crawford, a scientist at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, worked largely behind the scenes conducting research on greyhound respiratory disease until April 2004, when she and colleagues from UF, Cornell University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the discovery that equine influenza virus had apparently jumped species into dogs, causing the deaths of several racing greyhounds at a Florida track.

Exhibitors Mostly Upbeat, Share Varying Perceptions of Traffic During 2006 NAVC - Tuesday, February 07, 2006

     At a venue where everyone has something to sell, success may be due what you’re selling. Then again, if success is largely about perception, even the luck of the draw, exhibitors at the 2006 North American Veterinary Conference appeared to be in good spirits. 
     “I don’t know if it has to do with the people coming through here this year, or what, but I think it’s busier than last year,” said Brian Dunay, product manager for Advanstar, which owns a family of veterinary-related publications, including DVM Magazine.   read more...
